The residents at Soleil Laurel Canyon enjoy numerous pastimes and activities. For the past 11 years, Don Sungail’s hobby of choice has been woodcarving. After learning the craft at an event in Marietta, he has shared his gift with friends, family and even complete strangers.
Although he often crafts beautiful art for friends and family, Sungail also puts his talents to work helping others. Most recently, he carved nearly a dozen canes with intricately detailed eagle heads to give to soldiers in VA hospitals who recently returned from Iraq.
Sungail moved to Soleil Laurel Canyon in 2008 and is surrounded by neighbors who enjoy his work. In fact, visitors to the active adult community can see one of Sungail’s more popular creations – a woodpecker statue donated to the Soleil clubhouse. For neighbors wishing to create works of their own, he provides woodcarving tips and lessons.
When he’s not woodcarving, Sungail enjoys many of the amenities at Soleil, which were an important factor in his decision to move.
“Soleil had everything that I needed: a fitness room, two pools, tennis courts and a golf course nearby,” he said. “It was the best 55-and-over community that I looked at.”
Residents at Soleil Laurel Canyon also have access to Bocce Ball courts, walking trails, a zero-entry lagoon pool and more. With so many varied interests at the community, new and potential home buyers have no problem meeting neighbors who share their interests. Home buyers can schedule a sneak-peek to experience an overnight stay in a beautifully decorated home, enjoy the amenities and meet a community ambassador who lives in Soleil.
