50+ is one of the fastest growing demographics in the nation. Builders are constantly working on new plans and design features to target this rapidly growing market. From age restricted communities, to specially designed homes, the active adult is at the top of everyone’s mind these days when it comes to home design.
A 2009 study conducted by the National Association for Home Builders and MetLife Mature Market Institute has released surprising data that might change the way builders design homes for the Active Adult market.
Active Adults in the 55-64 age range have shown a strong interest in buying homes that have technology-heavy features. This demographic also showed an increased interest in home maintenance and repair along with several other features previously associated with the 65+ age range such as housekeeping, onsite health care and transportation. Planned social activities and amenities ranked much lower than expected for this demographic. These two items were previously believed to be extremely important when designing an active adult community.
The 65+ age group showed an increased interest in single story floorplans with universal design for their next home purchase.

This Atlanta lake community features both single level homes and two story designs as well. Because Heron Bay is a master-planned community, homeowners never have to go far to find what they needs, whether it be the grocery store or the golf course.
